Inspiring model of making script by an item from begin of riding flow in red hook until the intensive point (park) then another items comes from the other direction after parking the bike and begin walking flow, but i was thinking instead of the points to be something behaving like creepers, a kind of mesh or wires and flowing over the place

  1. how do we exploit the system of the Virginia creeper and transfer it to architecture.
  2. how do we tie the same idea of the plant life back to the bigger picture of the urban whole.
  3. what sort of infrastructure are we gonna propose within the city

to settle question one first we have to think what kinda of typologoy are we looking to create.
do we say 'fuck context' and infuse a new typology within red hook or do we try to respond to what is there with a version of itself.
i have been thinking about how much can scripting help us in these matters so far i don't see us scripting anything more than pure analysis in order to automate that part of our process...
we can also ,if we decide to explore the plant.. try to develop some kind of growth algorithm with specific rules relating to the bounds of red hook.
i mentioned once that maybe we should take the idea of the Virginia creepers to an extreme where we would scale its morphology to affect the entire red hook with the aim of creating this new urban connectivity.(that was one idea that struck me when i first saw the creepers)

we have to start considering and analyzing the existing bike path in and around the redhook environs to determine whether we are gonna use them or eradicate them and make new ones
im for re use we also need to determine locations for different things along the path
im thinking we need to as you suggested before try to create a multi functioning environment
in order to make riding benefit not only the riders but the whole neighborhood one way to do that i think is to make sure we allow for as many street vending facilities along the path where we could provide spaces for people to work and a fraction of the money from that could help sustain the scheme.

now with regards to infrastructure coming up with new ways to secure your bike is number one hte typical bike racks will not work we need something else that is another design chalenge we have. how does our bicycle loft operate are we gonna go with the idea of teh conveyor system where bikes are circulated on a caurosel totally auto mated or patially automated.
we also need to afix a specific atmosphere to our bicylce garage it is meant to be a hub but due to the site conditions we have to be very keen on what we do... we already have activity inflowing from the lowes hardware store being soo close how do we exploit these thing.

brain storm 2


the exploration of systems of emergence as a design strategy for riding path by use tools of behaviour of creeper in order to examine the selforganization of entities within an design scheme. Thus creating patterns of materialization, densification and voids, striving for minimal energy consumption in correlation with the topography of the site and the various constraints applied to the structure. The constraints, the rules applied to the design, create variations in the resulting condition.
Behaviour strategy: creepers are extending and spreading out with ready existing elements in certain direction for creating patterns harmonize with site !!! can be taken advantage for financial benefite !!!
financial benefite :
*reusing exisiting elements with new function
*scrape metal company is in smith street, we can take benefite and continue missing design elemnts from scraped metal
so no need for transporting elemnts to red hook! self efficiency

what can be encourage practicing riding in Red Hook and having similarity with creepers behaviour?

creepers choose a certain path to grow and cover the objects they are extending above, the path they choose can be effected with many conditions like sun, wind, size of object, spreading out items, stopping factors, ...etc..

so riders as creepers are choosing there pathes in Red Hook which can follow:

script follow : colours, eg. green streets instead of grey streets, or the path itself scripted with new colour by certain item or eg. creeper them self as colouring pathes and for environmental better atmosphere

script follow: shortes path, size of streets , ignoring pathes of blocking factors

script follow : sloping path in one direction from up to down (calculated ) until parking target and another one from parking sloped from up to down to desired target

script follows exisitng objects, extend trough them and spread out

Seeking a Concept[Day3]

view from intersection of 2nd and 9th looking to the train station......

No concrete analysis yet.......
im still getting a feel for things and familiarizing my self with the area..... 1 questions so far how do we deal with the distance between the bicycle loft and the sub way station? [distance =0.41km 0r 0.25 miles]

suggestions:
  • we could try to set up some kind of commerce zone along the borders to inject some life into that portion of the street , becasue from the look of it seems deserted.
  • following the idea of the plant extend the reach of the bicycle loft beyond the building and the extending its self to the station... so it, in effect becomes much like the plant using the city as a host.
yesterday was the day of program installation, so it was skipped from my scheduale,

i printed a lot of info about red hook today, i will analyis them and make conclusion for finding meaning to a certain points on our site or whatever info will help, the creepers behaviour will be great for mimiking as natural element coming up from place, i think i need also to read more about it, to ba able contact this behaviour with similar behaviour in the neighbourhood,

i will be today with narsa in berlin but i will post my analysis today night or tomorow morning

Seeking a Concept[Day2]

ok i kind of understand where your heading
but we need to just go ahead and start exploring
the ideas so far...
im going to send you the maps so we can start establishing these
different points.
while i work on a code to test these points for there significants
in the overall urban scheme.
i think though that the the idea of the creeper plants could work well
with our scheme coupled with your idea but the creepers directly relate to the identity of
the bike loft on the site. specifically becasue the site has exsisting structure which are very imposing.
we need to get cracking i wanted to take tonight as a rest night but i guess i will do that tomorrow....

seeking a concept [day 1]
























so far in my research of the history of red hook to find a concept
1 thing has jumped out to me this is the idea of 'VIRGINIA CREEPERS'
which is a plant life which played a part in the naming of red hook
the story goes: as the sailors went up the Gowanus they noticed the distinct red water which was cause by these plants.....

will look deeper and post some more soon... maybe this could be our point of departure
our keywords are definately entangled somewhere in this network of vines.

it could be an interesting theme to investigate.

the underlying task we are faced with is to unify/beautify different zones
and create a kind of process of procession in that we need to generate a specific atmosphere
within our scheme which will reflect on it or on the individuals who use it in unique ways.
each individual should find a part of our scheme identifying with a aspect of himself.

that is how i feel our urban section of the project

regarding the bike garage it to should have a atmosphere kinda synonymous with a bee hive
it should be some what of a core of activity for the bikers. i will post some basic analysis for the bike garage when i get the chance to take it from my brain to paper.
